Accessibility Statement
Monarch Resort Hotel is committed to ensuring that every guest — regardless of ability — can access our services, both on our website and on our physical property in Pacific Grove, California. Hospitality is for everyone, and accessibility is not an afterthought; it is central to how we design our spaces and our digital experience.
Digital Accessibility — Our Standard
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines are published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and represent the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility. Our ongoing efforts include:
- Semantic HTML — Our pages use proper landmark elements (
<header>,<main>,<nav>,<footer>) so screen readers can navigate efficiently. - Keyboard Navigation — All interactive elements (links, buttons, form fields) are reachable and operable via keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator.
- Skip to Content Link — A “Skip to main content” link is available as the first focusable element on every page, allowing keyboard and screen reader users to bypass repeated navigation.
- Colour Contrast — Text and interactive elements meet the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratios of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text.
- Image Alt Text — Every meaningful image on the Site carries a descriptive
altattribute. Decorative images are marked appropriately so they are not announced by assistive technology. - Form Labels — All form inputs are associated with visible
<label>elements and includearia-requiredwhere appropriate. - Responsive Design — The Site reflows correctly up to 400% zoom and is functional on screen widths from 320px upward.
Known Limitations
While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, some areas of the Site are still being improved:
- Our interactive map component (Google Maps) is a third-party embed with limited accessibility customisation. A text-based address and “Get Directions” link are always provided as an alternative.
- Certain gallery images may lack detailed descriptive alt text while we expand our content. We are actively addressing this.
We are committed to resolving known issues and conducting regular accessibility reviews as the Site evolves.
Physical Accessibility — Our Property
Monarch Resort Hotel is committed to providing a welcoming environment for guests with disabilities. Our physical accessibility features include:
- Accessible Parking — Designated ADA-compliant parking spaces are available in our on-site parking area, adjacent to the main entrance, with paved, level access to the lobby.
- Ramp & Level Access — A continuous accessible route connects the parking area, main entrance, lobby, and ground-floor amenities. No step entry at the front door.
- ADA-Compliant Guest Rooms — We offer fully accessible king rooms featuring roll-in showers, grab bars, lowered fixtures. These rooms are available to book through our booking engine and reservations team.
- Accessible Public Restrooms — Accessible restrooms are located on the ground floor near the lobby and dining areas.
- Elevator Access — Elevator service is available between floors.
- Service Animals — Service animals are welcome throughout the property in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
